Pixar and Marvel Both Had The Same Phase One

Okay, I know what you're saying. But hear me out.

[1] and [2]

Here is a list of the first 6 Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movies:

Iron Man
Incredible Hulk
Iron Man 2
Captain America: The First Avenger
The Avengers

And here is a list of the first 6 Pixar movies:

Toy Story
A Bug's Life
Toy Story 2
Monster's Inc.
Finding Nemo
The Incredibles

Now let's get some details.

The first movie is about some guy who has a meaningful self discovery journey about his role in the greater scheme of things.

And blonde love interests [3]

The second movie is the forgettable and often ignored chapter.

The third movie is the sequel to the first one that everyone agrees didn't quite make the mark. But hey, it introduces a new redheaded girl.

Scarlett Johansson is missing a cowboy hat though [4]

Now, for four and five, I think Marvel did a switcheroo. Because Thor is about a "fish out of water" (that's right, deal with it) who needs to rely on new friends to help him out of a jam. Captain America is about some guys who want to do their best for king and country (or you know, 'Merica and country) but end up learning that they need to fight back against some rigid upper management.

Screams and Patriotism go hand in hand far too often [5]

And then there's one about a superhero team that fights a villain from the strong guy's past.

Now, you could bitch and moan about these being shoehorned in, or about how little my life matters, but you can't deny that the structure is pretty damn compellingly similar.

Let me know what you think in the comments!

Until next time,
